What AI Cannot Do
🟥 AI Cannot DoBusiness

AI cannot go to work for you

AI can help write emails, organize documents, generate code, summarize meetings, and track tasks, but it cannot appear at the office as your identity or fully replace your real-time responses to your boss and team.

Why is this considered beyond AI?

Background

When you get a job, the employer hires a specific person, not an AI account or robot that can silently take over. Office work involves identity, attendance, meetings, coworker collaboration, situational judgment, and company rules. Remote work does not require physical presence, but it still requires the actual employee to understand tasks in real time, own outcomes, respond to communication, and handle changing priorities.

Goal

Have AI or an AI-controlled virtual/physical agent, with employer consent and without impersonating the employee, perform a real job over time: real-time communication, task judgment, cross-team collaboration, delivery quality, confidentiality compliance, and performance accountability.

Observed problems

AI can automate local tasks, but it cannot fully carry the identity responsibility, organizational trust, business context, situational prioritization, office social interaction, confidentiality boundaries, performance review, and consequences of mistakes in an employment relationship. Even in remote work, it runs into ad-hoc manager questions, live meeting decisions, shifting context, accountability, and company-policy compliance.

Failure analysis

A job is not just a sequence of offline tasks; it is an ongoing organizational relationship. Sending an AI stand-in to an office would involve impersonation and policy violations. Letting AI secretly cover remote work also breaks down around real-time communication, responsibility, confidentiality, and value judgment. AI can be a work assistant, but not a complete substitute for the hired person.

Success criteria

A successful case must be a real job experiment with explicit employer knowledge and consent. It must not rely on impersonation, concealment, or bypassing company rules. The record must cover at least 30 consecutive days of AI/agent work, real-time response logs, meeting or collaboration evidence, tools and model versions, human-intervention boundaries, delivery quality, manager/team feedback, confidentiality compliance, and performance outcomes. Auto-writing emails, generating code, or completing a short isolated task does not count.

Attempt submission standard
  • The solution must be personally tested and completed by the submitter; media reports, reposted articles, and second-hand cases are not accepted.
  • Submissions must include screenshots, video, repository links, logs, or accessible proof. Screenshots should come from actual running results.
  • Submissions must state the AI product, model version, model settings, experiment count, and full process.
  • If claiming success, provide a step-by-step reproduction or operation guide so reviewers can verify it.
  • Submissions that only cite news, product marketing, or someone else's result will be rejected.
